8th International Conference on Multidisciplinary Research a Success with 58 Studies Presented

The 8th International Conference on Multidisciplinary Research (ICMR) held on June 20-21, 2024, via Zoom, was a resounding success. The virtual conference featured 58 studies presented by researchers from various countries, highlighting the theme “The Role of Education and Research in Creating a More Sustainable World.”

La Consolacion College Bacolod, in collaboration with the Kapisanan ng mga Manunudlo ng Filipino sa Negros, hosted the event, emphasizing the significance of education and research in addressing global sustainability challenges. The conference began with opening remarks from Sr. Joan Brigida Corazon S. Infante, OSA, President of La Consolacion College Bacolod, who stressed the importance of knowledge and collaboration in fostering a

sustainable future.

“In these times of rapid change and growing challenges, the significance of our collective efforts in education and research cannot be overstated. It is through our dedication to learning, innovation, and collaboration that we can address the complexities of our world and pave the way for a sustainable future,” Infante stated.

Dr. Mary Rose A. Bañas, President of the Kapisanan ng mga Manunudlo ng Filipino sa Negros, echoed these sentiments, highlighting the conference’s commitment to inclusivity and diverse perspectives. “By providing opportunities for researchers to present their work in Filipino, we are ensuring that our academic discourse remains accessible and relevant to our local communities,” Bañas remarked.

The conference featured a diverse array of country paper presentations. Notable among them was Dr. Prof. Ralf Wagner and Prof.

Mohammed Salem’s presentation on “Food Waste Behavior: Do Consumers Care?” which delved into consumer attitudes towards food waste and its environmental implications. Dr. Katharina Raab addressed “The Global (plastic) Waste Problem,” offering insights into the challenges and potential solutions to plastic pollution. Frederick Jonathan Nühnen’s presentation on “Institutionalizing a Revolution: The Influence of Rural Land Conflicts on the Implementation of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao” examined the complex interplay between rural land conflicts and regional governance.

The conference also included concurrent sessions on various topics such as education and learning, language and literature, health and social sciences, law enforcement, urban planning, and more, reflecting the multidisciplinary nature of the research presented.

Dr. Rodjhun B. Navarro, the conference chairperson, expressed gratitude to the international partners and participants. “This conference is a testament to our shared commitment to fostering a vibrant and inclusive academic environment. With over fifty papers presented and participants from the Philippines and other countries, we are truly embodying the spirit of global cooperation,” Navarro said.

As the conference concluded, participants were encouraged to build on the discussions and collaborations formed during the event, with a shared goal of advancing sustainable development through education and research. The 8th ICMR not only showcased significant research contributions but also reinforced the importance of global cooperation in addressing pressing environmental and social challenges.
