LCC Bacolod to Present Solid Waste Management Studies at International Conference in Bacolod City

La Consolacion College Bacolod will showcase the findings of its collaborative solid waste management studies at an international knowledge-sharing conference on November 6, 2024, at Citadines Hotel, Bacolod. The conference will feature two key research projects conducted by LCC Bacolod, in partnership with the University of Kassel and the University of St. La Salle, funded by the German government through GIZ.

The projects, which began in October 2023, include Assessment and Management of Plastic Waste Streams and their Leakages in Bacolod City and Solid Waste Management in Barangay Felisa by Building Capacities of the Informal Waste Sector. In addition, LCC Bacolod led studies on marine litter to analyze waste volume from Bacolod’s rivers and incoming waste from the sea, as well as an inventory of Bacolod’s junk shops and the types of waste they recover.

The conference will be attended by public officials, including members of the Solid Waste Management Board. Ma. Fe Trespuentes, Officer-in-Charge of the Bacolod Environment and Natural Resources Office (BENRO), emphasized that these studies have shaped Bacolod City’s 10-year Solid Waste Management Plan and anticipates endorsing the final results for adoption by the board.

LCC Bacolod’s research team includes Dr. Rodjhun Navarro, Felix Dalida, and Rejay Alvarado, joined by Dr. Katharina Raab, Dushyantsingh Bhuwanee, and Dr. Ralf Wagner from the University of Kassel, and Dr. Marie Therese Sales, Dr. Ma. J-Len Jonco-Mesias, and several others from USLS. Terence Dacles, GIZ Project Coordinator, is also among the authors contributing to this vital body of work.
