IT Students Develop EcoTagger App for Sustainable Waste Management

La Consolacion College Bacolod IT students, Jal Devecais, Gabriel Malanday, Charle Torres, and Michael Diopenes, have developed the EcoTagger app under the guidance of their adviser, Mr. Lenuel Betita. Commissioned by GIZ through the 3RproMar project (Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle to Protect the Marine Environment and Coral Reefs), the app was presented at the 3RproMar Knowledge Sharing Conference on November 6, 2024.

EcoTagger is a mobile application designed to support environmental sustainability through compliance with the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) law. It enables users to geotag waste collection stations, participate in cleanup events, and track waste disposal by quantity or weight, fostering accountability in waste management. Users can also contribute to an updated product database and receive sustainability tips for responsible waste practices.

LCCB President Sr. Flolyn Catungal, OSA, congratulated the team, saying, “This innovation highlights the technical skills and environmental commitment of our students, aligning with our mission to instill a deep sense of responsibility for the planet in every LCCian.”

The EcoTagger app represents a significant step in supporting waste management initiatives, contributing to the broader goal of reducing plastic waste and marine debris in the Philippines.
