When you think of Silay City, your mind might go to heritage houses, charming streets, or the bustling Bacolod-Silay Airport. What you don’t immediately think of—but should—is its potential to become a hub for aviation education.
That’s exactly what sparked Ira Ramirez’s imagination.

“I’ve always been drawn to aviation and educational spaces,” Ira shares. “But when I realized that Silay—despite having an airport—didn’t have an institution to support aviation training, it felt like a missed opportunity.”
His thesis project, “An Aeronautical School in Silay City,” is his answer to that gap. And it’s not just a school on paper—it’s a bold, grounded, and future-facing concept that rethinks how we train the next generation of aviation professionals.
The school is designed with both precision and possibility in mind. Picture this: aircraft maintenance hangars, simulation rooms, smart classrooms, and recreational zones, all seamlessly organized to encourage hands-on learning and future adaptability. Every inch is crafted to support the rhythm and rigor of aviation education.
But Ira’s design isn’t just about sleek functionality—it’s deeply rooted in place. Silay’s tropical climate informed his use of vertical gardens, natural ventilation, and energy-efficient systems. These aren’t just eco-friendly buzzwords—they’re choices that reflect a commitment to local sustainability and cultural relevance.
“Architecture has to respond not just to industry needs, but to its community,” Ira explains. “This school creates jobs, nurtures talent, and helps shape Silay’s identity as more than just a gateway—it becomes a destination.”
And the ripple effects could reach far beyond city limits. By offering specialized education and state-of-the-art facilities, the school has the potential to put Silay on the map as a regional hub for aviation training—welcoming students, professionals, and partnerships from across the country.
“It’s about giving local youth a reason to dream big,” Ira says. “And giving them the runway to make it happen.”
In a world that’s constantly moving, this project is about lifting people, not just planes.
