Architecture Students Highlight Sustainable Design at Renewable Energy Week 2025

Students from La Consolacion College Bacolod’s Bachelor of Science in Architecture program proudly represented the institution during the Renewable Energy Week 2025 Exhibit held from July 17 to 19 at the SMX Convention Center, Bacolod City.

The exhibit, officially titled the Renewable Energy (R/E) Week EXPO, was organized by the Province of Negros Occidental in partnership with the Negros Women for Tomorrow Foundation (NWTF), the Negrosanon Initiative for Climate and the Environment (NICE), and with the support of the Department of Energy – Visayas and a broad coalition of public and private partners. It aimed to promote sustainable energy, green innovation, and climate-resilient development.

Representing LCC Bacolod, the School of Architecture, Fine Arts, and Interior Design (ARFIEN) mounted an exhibit featuring outstanding thesis projects from Batch 2025, with a specific focus on sustainable facility design. The showcase included architectural models and concept posters centering on energy-efficient public infrastructure and low-impact design.

Among the notable projects featured was the thesis of Therese Mae Ortaliz, recipient of the P.E. Marzoña Excellence Award for Best Thesis, titled “A Museum Complex: A Cultural, Historical, Memorial, and Art Center in Bacolod City.” The student works demonstrated thoughtful integration of environmental design principles aimed at fostering eco-conscious living and responsible architecture.

The exhibit drew praise from visitors and organizers alike and culminated with the recognition of LCC Bacolod’s student exhibitors by Governor Eugenio “Bong” Lacson on July 19, 2025.

“The Renewable Energy Week EXPO was a great venue for us, as students of LCCB ARFIEN, to showcase the passion and brilliance our community upholds,” shared Psalms Segovia, officer of the United Architects of the Philippines – Student Auxiliary (UAPSA). “This opportunity to share the great minds behind those works is a big leap in our continuous efforts toward a more sustainable, human-centric, and eco-conscious living the best way we know how—through design.”

Segovia added that he, along with fellow officers of UAPSA and the ARFIEN Council, were tasked to facilitate and host the LCC exhibit booth, gaining valuable experience in design presentation and public engagement.

The students’ participation was guided by Dr. Vincent Raymund Alovera, Dean of the School of Architecture, Fine Arts, and Interior Design, and Ar. Gary Peter Bello, Program Head of the BS Architecture program.

“LCC Bacolod’s presence in the Renewable Energy Week Exhibit is an affirmation of our long-standing commitment to environmental education and sustainable development,” said Sr. Flolyn S. Catungal, OSA, School President. “We believe our students can lead the way in reimagining design solutions for the common good. Their work gives us hope for a future that is not only innovative, but deeply compassionate and ecologically mindful.”

The participation is part of a broader partnership between LCC Bacolod and the Provincial Government of Negros Occidental, sealed through a Memorandum of Agreement signed on July 8, 2025. Through such collaborations, LCC Bacolod continues to strengthen its mission of transforming lives through knowledge, service, and responsible stewardship of creation.
