La Consolacion College Bacolod’s Center for Music, Arts, and Culture staged its highly anticipated Kundiman Fiesta on Oct. 3 at the LCCB Auditorium, celebrating the rich heritage of Filipino love songs under the theme “Awit ng Pag-ibig, Musika ng Lahi.”
Two shows were held — a matinee at 9:45 a.m. and a gala at 2 p.m. — featuring renowned guest performers alongside the LCCB Chorale, Chorus, and IBED Children’s Choir.

The program opened with an overview of Kundiman by Prof. Alexander Magno Romero, the show’s chorale conductor and pianist. Guest artists included baritone Rolando V. Gison Jr., soprano Regina Gico-Derramas, tenor Christian A. Valdevieso, and classical pianist Aiden Miguel Lesondato. The repertoire highlighted beloved Filipino classics such as “Bayan Ko,” “Ako’y Isang Ibong Sawi,” “Ugoy ng Duyan,” and “Ikaw,” culminating in a community singing of “Pilipinas Kong Mahal.”
LCCB President Sr. Flolyn S. Catungal, OSA, praised the performers and the initiative for bringing cultural pride to the campus.
“The Kundiman Fiesta is not just a concert — it is a celebration of our identity as Filipinos,” Sr. Flolyn said. “Through these timeless songs, we are reminded of our roots, our values, and the beauty of our shared heritage. I am proud of our students and faculty for keeping this tradition alive.”
Romero emphasized the importance of continuing this advocacy in future performances.
“As a cultural worker, my advocacy is to preserve and promote our rich heritage of Kundiman and folk songs,” he said. “Let us continue to showcase these timeless treasures. With thousands of beautiful songs waiting to be heard, let’s work together to bring more of them to life in our next concert.”
The event drew students, faculty members, and alumni who filled the auditorium with applause and heartfelt participation. It was organized by the LCCB Center for Music, Arts, and Culture as part of its continuing effort to promote Filipino music and artistry within the academic community.
