La Consolacion College Bacolod conducted an earthquake preparedness orientation this week, gathering experts from the city’s disaster response units to train students on safety protocols amid the recent surge of tremors across the country.
The session was led by Mr. Joemarie Baldomar, LCCB Consultant and representative of the City Disaster Risk Management Office. Joining him were key personnel from various emergency response groups, including the Fire Chief of the Community Fire Auxiliary Group, the Team Leader of the 605th Rescue Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army, the Incident Commander and Focal Person of BDRRMO Taculing, and the Training NCO of the 605th Rescue Infantry Battalion.

Students were briefed on practical steps during an earthquake, such as the “duck, cover, and hold” technique, safe evacuation routes, and post-quake response measures. Demonstrations reinforced the importance of preparedness and coordination within the campus community.
Mila Leeping, a member of the Disaster Risk Reduction Management Committee, underscored the need for holistic readiness, saying, “Being resilient alone is not enough. We need to be prepared mentally, physically, and emotionally. Disaster preparedness is not just a lesson—it’s a responsibility we all share.”
LCC Bacolod President Sr. Flolyn S. Catungal, OSA, commended the organizers and participants, emphasizing that preparedness reflects the college’s commitment to care for its students and community. “Education extends beyond the classroom. It is about protecting lives, nurturing awareness, and acting with compassion in times of crisis,” she said.
The activity forms part of LCC Bacolod’s continuing disaster risk reduction and management initiatives to build a culture of safety and resilience on campus.
