LCC Bacolod IBED Marks United Nations Month with “Cultures in Harmony” Celebration

The Integrated Basic Education Department of La Consolacion College Bacolod culminated the celebration of United Nations Month with the theme “Cultures in Harmony” on Thursday, showcasing the creativity, intelligence, and cultural awareness of students across grade levels.

Sponsored by the Social Studies Area and the Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS) Strand, the program opened with an invocation, followed by the entrance of participants and introduction of judges and contestants. The celebration featured a series of contests and presentations designed to promote unity through diversity and deepen students’ understanding of global cultures.

One of the highlights was the on-the-spot essay writing contest, which ran for an hour and a half with two categories — one for Junior and Night High School students, and another for Senior High School participants. Contestants reflected on the significance of intercultural harmony and global peace through their compositions.

For the younger learners, the Doll Dressed-Up Contest for Grades 1 to 3 allowed students to express cultural appreciation through fashion. The challenge required dressing dolls to represent different cultures, genders, and forms of diversity — a creative way to introduce children to global citizenship at an early age.

Meanwhile, the T-Shirt Painting Contest, which lasted for eight hours, showcased artistic skill and teamwork. Participants used acrylic or enamel paint to depict the theme across three categories: Grades 4 to 6 (six groups), Grades 7 to 10 (17 groups), and Grades 11 to 12 (15 teams). Each team was composed of three members, collaboratively interpreting harmony through art.

The Traditional Wear Competition featured students from Grade School, Junior High, and Senior High. Participants paraded in national costumes inspired by various countries, introduced themselves, and shared short narratives about the culture they represented.

Ms. Chennie Capitle, Social Science Chairperson, commended the participants and faculty for their dedication and creativity, saying, “This celebration reminds us that diversity is not something that divides us but something that unites us in understanding, respect, and love for one another.”

The event concluded with awarding ceremonies, a community dance, and photo opportunities, symbolizing the spirit of global solidarity and friendship.

Through “Cultures in Harmony,” LCC Bacolod reaffirmed its commitment to fostering cultural awareness, inclusivity, and peace among its students — values deeply rooted in its Augustinian educational tradition.
