LCC BACOLOD EARNS CHED-NIR RECOGNITION FOR RELIABLE HIGHER EDUCATION DATA REPORTING

Behind every student record, institutional report and government submission is a system of data that helps schools make better decisions and helps agencies understand the real condition of higher education.

La Consolacion College Bacolod received the Model Implementer Award for the Higher Education Management Information System from the Commission on Higher Education Region XVIII-Negros Island Region during the 2nd Regional Quality Awards held May 26 in Bacolod City.

The award was received by LCC Bacolod President Sr. Flolyn S. Catungal, OSA; Dr. Rodjhun B. Navarro, vice president for research, innovation and linkages; Rejay Y. Alvarado, head of the Research Office; and Felix Adrian D. Dalida, head of the Quality Assurance and Accreditation Office.

CHED-NIR officials, led by Regional Director Raul C. Alvarez Jr., presented the award during the ceremony, which recognized higher education institutions for achievements in board performance, research, community engagement, institutional systems and other areas of quality. CHED-NIR listed LCC Bacolod as a recipient of the Model Implementer Award for the Higher Education Management Information System, or HEMIS, as part of the regional awards.

For students and parents, the recognition may not be as visible as a board exam ranking or a competition award. But it matters because accurate institutional data supports enrollment planning, academic monitoring, compliance, student services and long-term decision-making.

“This award reminds us that quality education also depends on the quiet, careful work of people who keep our systems accurate, organized and responsive,” Catungal said. “When data is reliable, the institution can serve students better and make decisions with greater responsibility.”

HEMIS is a CHED reporting system used by higher education institutions to submit key information on programs, enrollment, graduates, faculty and other institutional data. For colleges and universities, effective HEMIS implementation requires coordination among offices and careful attention to accuracy, timeliness and accountability.

Mrs. Ellen Sesante, assistant registrar, said the recognition affirms the importance of disciplined records management and collaboration across institutional units.

“Every report represents real students, real programs and real institutional responsibilities,” Sesante said. “This award encourages us to continue strengthening our processes so that the information we submit is accurate, complete and useful for decision-making.”

Sesante said the work behind HEMIS requires teamwork among the registrar’s office, academic units, quality assurance personnel and administrators.

“Good data does not happen by accident,” she said. “It comes from consistent documentation, verification and communication among offices.”

Catungal said the award also reflects the Augustinian value of stewardship, especially in the responsible handling of information entrusted to the institution.

“To serve with integrity means being faithful even in the details that many people do not see,” Catungal said. “This recognition honors that kind of service — the service that protects trust, strengthens accountability and supports the mission of education.”

For LCC Bacolod, the award highlights the role of institutional systems in student formation. Strong records, accurate reports and reliable data help ensure that academic programs are properly monitored, student information is responsibly managed and institutional planning is grounded in evidence.

As higher education becomes increasingly data-driven, the recognition affirms LCC Bacolod’s commitment to improving not only what happens in classrooms, but also the systems that allow the school to serve students, families, regulators and partner communities with competence and care.
