La Consolacion College Bacolod welcomed representatives from the European Union and the European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines during a visit to the Circular Biohubs demonstration facility at the LCCB Amistad Center in Gardenville, Barangay Tangub.
The visiting delegation was accompanied by GIZ Philippines Senior Advisor Terence Paul U. Dacles as part of the European Union Investment Visit Programme in Bacolod City, which highlighted circular economy initiatives, organic waste valorization and potential green investment opportunities.
The guests included Dawn Marie Cabigon of the European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines, Tsvetomir Svilenov, program manager of the EU-Philippines Green Economy Partnership, and Ada-Stina Pesamaa of the EU Delegation to the Philippines.

Members of the Augustinian Sisters of Our Lady of Consolation, led by LCC Bacolod President Sr. Flolyn S. Catungal, OSA, welcomed the delegation to the campus demonstration site, where the college and its partners showcased the project’s black soldier fly larvae processing and vermicomposting facility.
The Circular Biohubs project demonstrates how biodegradable waste can be converted into useful products such as animal feed components, compost and soil enhancers. It is designed to help communities reduce organic waste, support urban gardening, create green livelihood opportunities and contribute to Bacolod City’s broader circular economy goals.
During the visit, the guests interacted with members of the Informal Waste Sector Association of Bacolod City, who were working at the facility. The exchange highlighted the role of waste workers in community-based waste diversion and their participation in emerging livelihood models linked to organic waste recovery.
The visit also underscored LCC Bacolod’s role as an academic and community partner in advancing practical, inclusive and locally grounded solutions to solid waste management.
The Circular Biohubs initiative is among the demonstration projects supported under the EU-Philippines Green Economy Partnership, a flagship program that promotes the country’s transition toward a green and circular economy through policy support, partnerships and scalable local solutions.
For LCC Bacolod, the visit affirmed the importance of collaboration among the academe, government, international development partners, the private sector and community organizations in turning waste challenges into opportunities for livelihood, environmental protection and sustainable local development.
