Faculty members of the La Consolacion College Bacolod Integrated Basic Education Department strengthened their skills in constructive parent communication during a faculty development session held July 23 at the GENYO Room.
The session, led by Dr. Rodjhun Navarro, vice president for research and internal linkages, focused on professional writing, digital communication, institutional reporting and conflict management in school settings.
Navarro emphasized that communication with parents should be clear, factual, respectful and directed toward a specific course of action. Faculty members examined common situations such as questions about grades, incomplete requirements, behavioral concerns and emotionally charged messages sent through digital platforms.

The session introduced the CLEAR framework, which guides teachers in identifying the context, listener, evidence, aim and appropriate response before communicating. Participants also learned the PAUSE framework for de-escalating difficult conversations and the FACTS checklist for reviewing the accuracy, clarity and tone of messages and reports.
Mr. Al Anthony Talaman, participant, said the session helped him understand the importance of responding to parent concerns only after reviewing the available information.
“I learned that we should not immediately become defensive when a parent raises a concern. We need to acknowledge the concern, verify the records and communicate the facts calmly before agreeing on the next step,” Talaman said.
Faculty members also explored the responsible use of generative artificial intelligence in drafting parent updates, grade explanations and other professional communications. Navarro reminded participants that AI may assist with language and organization but should not replace teacher judgment, institutional procedures or accountability.
Mrs. Geriane said the training provided teachers with practical approaches they could apply in their regular interactions with parents and guardians.
“Constructive parent communication is essential to building trust and strengthening the partnership between the school and the home. The strategies shared during the session will help our teachers address concerns more clearly, professionally and compassionately,” Geriane said.
The activity formed part of the department’s faculty development program aimed at enhancing the written, digital and interpersonal communication competencies of teachers while promoting proactive conflict resolution and a collaborative school community.
