Angelica Gelacio’s Showroom Project Invites Peace Into Everyday Spaces

Calm doesn’t always require cost—and serenity doesn’t have to be extravagant. These were the guiding truths behind Angelica Gelacio’s showroom concept, which earned her the Most Resourceful Showroom Project Award at La Consolacion College Bacolod’s Interior Design exhibit.

Inspired by the word “Serene,” Gelacio envisioned a tranquil home space—an environment that whispers calm, invites stillness, and embraces simplicity. With limited resources at hand, she embraced creativity over cost, working with available plants, borrowed furniture, and repurposed pieces from her client’s home. “We worked with what was already available to us,” she shared, “and styled it accordingly so it still aligns with the design concept.”

But serenity doesn’t come without struggle.

“The most difficult part,” she said, “was finding the right materials and skilled workers to achieve the design vision, all within the client’s tight budget.” Gelacio turned to collaboration—seeking help, scouting artisans, and adapting when needed. The result? A functional and aesthetically peaceful space, born not from abundance but from ingenuity.

This project also shaped her deeper understanding of spatial planning. “I learned how important it is to design not just for beauty, but for function. It’s about knowing what the client truly needs,” she explained. Through careful research and selective material use, she made every element count.

Gelacio’s space delivers more than design—it delivers emotion. “The message I wanted to convey is simple: a space where one can unwind, relax, and bond with family or guests. A serene space inside a home.” And indeed, serenity radiates from every angle of her work—not in spite of its constraints, but because of them.

In a world often drawn to extravagance, Angelica Gelacio reminds us that good design is not about having more, but about seeing more in what we already have.
