Architecture students from La Consolacion College Bacolod are stepping beyond the studio—and beyond the country—as they embark on a landmark International Educational Tour to Singapore. This journey marks not just a change in geography, but a leap into new perspectives, inspirations, and possibilities for future architects trained under one of the top-caliber architecture programs in the Philippines

Dr. Vincent Raymund Alovera, Dean of the School of Architecture, Fine Arts, and Interior Design, shares that this initiative is anchored on the goals of CMO 61 Series of 2017, which underscores the need to keep architecture students abreast with evolving global practices. “The idea behind organizing this tour is to enhance student learning by exposing them to diverse architectural styles—from local to national and now to international landscapes, beginning with Asian cities like Singapore and, in the future, European cities, particularly Italy,” Dean Alovera explained.
Singapore, a global model of innovation and sustainability, offers a vibrant architectural ecosystem where tradition and technology intersect. “This international education tour provides firsthand experience of architectural diversity, building technologies, and the historical-cultural contexts that shape them,” Alovera adds. “Such exposure broadens their perspective, challenges their creativity, and inspires unique and innovative architectural solutions.”
Among the itinerary’s highlights are visits to the National University of Singapore, where students gain insight into internationally benchmarked architectural programs, and DP Architects, a firm renowned for its cutting-edge sustainable designs and people-centered urban development approaches. Here, the students witness how design theory transforms into real-world solutions.
For many students, this trip is deeply personal. Chris Andrew Bravo, one of the participants, expressed his overflowing excitement:
“My initial reaction to joining the International Educational Tour was pure joy—it was music to my ears. This will be my first time boarding an aircraft and traveling abroad. The excitement I feel is beyond my control. I know this experience will provide valuable insights that will greatly benefit my academic work.”
He is particularly looking forward to visiting architectural marvels such as Gardens by the Bay, Changi Airport Terminal 1, Marina Bay, and Universal Studios, as well as having the chance to step into one of Singapore’s leading architecture firms. For Chris and many others, this trip is more than a sightseeing adventure—it’s a milestone moment that affirms their place in a future where Filipino architects are globally competitive and creatively equipped.
As these students walk through Singapore’s green spaces, skyline, and smart infrastructures, they carry with them the spirit of their alma mater and a renewed vision for what Filipino architecture can become. In the words of their Dean, “This is not just about seeing buildings—it’s about building vision.”
