Asher Acar’s Vision for Kabankalan’s Athletics Stadium

For architecture student and former athlete Asher Acar, the road to designing an Athletics Stadium in Kabankalan City began not on paper, but on the track. A former representative in provincial meets, Asher knew firsthand what local athletes were up against: talent without tools, potential without proper facilities. That realization—of the city’s deep athletic spirit underserved by infrastructure—sparked a vision.

“I was struck to see how different their training grounds compared to Kabankalan,” Asher shared. “I wanted to create something that truly supports their growth and highlights the potential of our community.”

This thesis isn’t just about sports architecture—it’s a rallying cry for equity in athletic development. The proposed stadium is designed to accommodate up to 20,000 spectators, offering professional-grade amenities for athletes and a world-class viewing experience for fans.

Designed for Performance, Built for Community

Every aspect of the stadium’s design is anchored in purpose and accessibility. Athletes benefit from official-size tracks and fields, shock-absorbing surfaces, and dedicated training and warm-up zones. Coaches have viewing rooms and review spaces, turning the stadium into both a battleground and a classroom.

Spectators enjoy ample shaded seating, immersive LED screens, and easy access to facilities, while the broader community is welcomed through multi-use spaces perfect for local events, fairs, and gatherings.

Accessibility is baked into the plan:

Wheelchair-friendly paths and seating

Clear signage and tactile maps

Sensory-friendly quiet zones

“It’s important that everyone feels welcome and supported,” Asher emphasized.

Sustainability on Display

Sustainability isn’t an afterthought—it’s a design principle. The stadium harnesses solar energy, utilizes rainwater harvesting, and integrates natural ventilation and lighting. Eco-friendly materials and green zones further reduce environmental impact while beautifying the landscape.

“Green spaces help reduce heat and improve air quality. It’s about designing for today and tomorrow,” Asher explained.

A Legacy for Kabankalan

Asher envisions this project as a turning point: a catalyst for sports development, a driver of tourism, and a symbol of civic pride.

“The stadium can inspire. It can show young people what’s possible. It can bring communities together. That’s what makes it more than a building—it’s a beacon for Kabankalan’s future.”

With Southern Negros poised for greater regional integration, this proposed stadium sets the stage for Kabankalan to emerge not just as a host for events, but as a nurturer of champions—in sport, in community, and in vision.
