Faith, Legacy, and Service: Sr. Flolyn Catungal’s Powerful Address at LCC Bacolod Homecoming

September 7, 2024 — La Consolacion College Bacolod celebrated its 75th General Alumni Homecoming with a heartwarming and inspiring address by the school president, Sr. Flolyn S. Catungal, OSA. The event, held at the Quadrangle, brought together alumni from various generations, all coming home to celebrate the school’s enduring legacy of Catholic education.

Sr. Flolyn opened her speech with a heartfelt welcome, acknowledging the hard work of the LCCB Alumni Officers, led by Atty. Tejada, who ensured that the evening would be a cherished memory for all in attendance. “This night is a memory that will create an impact on your hearts and minds,” she declared, setting the tone for an evening of reflection, gratitude, and connection.

She reminded the alumni of the rich history of LCC Bacolod, the first higher education institution in Negros Occidental, tracing its legacy of resilience, passion, and commitment to academic excellence. “As we gather to celebrate this Diamond Alumni Homecoming, we are reminded of the enduring frontier spirit that has guided us through the decades,” Sr. Flolyn stated, emphasizing the school’s role in transforming lives and uplifting communities through education grounded in Augustinian core values.

Sr. Flolyn highlighted the vision that began 105 years ago—one that has continually emphasized the pursuit of truth and the transformative power of education. She honored the legacy of those who contributed to LCCB’s growth, especially the sisters, teachers, administrators, and alumni whose dedication laid the foundation for the school’s success. “Your success has become our joy and pride as we celebrate each one’s giftedness,” she added, thanking the alumni for returning home and encouraging them to remain engaged in the life of their alma mater.

Calling on the alumni to embody the values of Unitas, Caritas, and Veritas, she urged them to live meaningful lives rooted in service to others, particularly the poor. “Allow the presence of God to manifest in your life as you integrate your gifts and talents, your profession, and your faith,” she said, reminding them of the greater purpose of their education.

Sr. Flolyn concluded her speech with a biblical reminder from Isaiah 40:31, encouraging all to trust in God for strength and resilience. “Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles,” she quoted, offering a message of hope and renewal as the alumni look toward the future.

The evening ended with a celebration of community and gratitude, as Sr. Flolyn called for renewed commitment to LCCB’s ideals, encouraging everyone to continue making a difference in the world. “Congratulations, LCCians, as we hope for another 75 years of excellence and commitment, God willing. Enjoy the rest of the night as we create meaningful connections with each other,” she concluded. The 75th General Alumni Homecoming not only celebrated the achievements of LCCB but also reminded all attendees of the school’s enduring role in shaping the lives of its students and its continued mission to serve others.
