IT Students Join Hyperthon: Based Build Event to Advance Blockchain Innovation

Nine teams of 3rd and 4th year BS Information Technology students from La Consolacion College Bacolod participated in the Hyperthon: Base Build Event held at Room MC504, showcasing innovative blockchain-based casual game prototypes using Base technology as the core development platform.

Organized by the Society of Innovators, Programmers, and Designers (SIPD) of LCC Bacolod in partnership with Base Philippines, the competition forms part of the BSIT program’s continuing initiative to promote blockchain education and innovation in academic settings. Several freshmen members of the Coders Guild also joined as observers, gaining firsthand exposure to decentralized app development.

The event was made possible through the collaboration of Charles Torres, LCC Faculty Member and Based Coin Blockchain Developer, who provided technical mentorship, and Marc Giesten Louis Cordova, a Student Blockchain Developer who guided participants in blockchain integration and prototype design.

Guiding and managing the event were Base Philippines mentors Ryan Chris Ariego, Lead Regional Based Ambassador in the Visayas, and Ray Tristan Publeo, DevRel Engineer at The BLOKC and Base Philippines. Both shared their expertise in blockchain and smart contract development, inspiring participants to pursue real-world applications of emerging technologies.

A total of ₱10,000 in cash prizes will be awarded to five winning teams that presented the most promising blockchain-based casual game prototypes. Results will be announced within the week.

“The Hyperthon: Base Build Event is more than just a coding challenge—it is a platform for our students to embrace innovation, collaboration, and purpose-driven technology,” said Sr. Flolyn S. Catungal, OSA, LCC Bacolod President. “Through opportunities like this, we empower our future IT professionals to lead the next wave of digital transformation.”

The Hyperthon aimed to give students hands-on experience in blockchain game development using Base as the primary platform for decentralized applications. It reinforces LCC Bacolod’s commitment to fostering innovation, research integration, and digital readiness across its academic programs, positioning its students at the forefront of the Web3 revolution.
