Jim Lopez Delivers Alumni Talk on Family Business Law at LCC Bacolod

La Consolacion College Bacolod hosted an Alumni Talk on Family Business Law on Sept. 18 at the Audio Visual Center, featuring Prof. Jim Lopez, a multi-awarded author and legal scholar from the High School Class of 1970.

The event drew a diverse audience, including members of the Bacolod Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce, with Chairman Emeritus Alfredo G. Barcelona and Vice President Stephen Sy in attendance. Faculty and students from the School of Sciences, Liberal Arts and Teacher Education; the School of Business and Information Technology; the Graduate School; Senior High School; and students from the University of St. La Salle College of Law also participated. The Augustinian Sisters community of LCC Bacolod, led by Sr. Ma. Oliva Elisan, OSA, was also present.

Organized and moderated by the Student Council leaders of the School of Sciences, Liberal Arts and Teacher Education, with support from the Office of Student Affairs and Services and the College Supreme Student Government, the seminar featured Lopez sharing key insights from his authored works on family business law. Attendees described his presentation as engaging and insightful, blending scholarship with practical guidance for business leaders and students alike.

“Today’s engagement reminds us that learning is not confined to textbooks or lectures alone—it is enriched by the experiences and insights of those who came before us,” said Dr. Janrae A. Sanicas, dean of SSLATE, in her closing message.

LCC President Sr. Flolyn S. Catungal, OSA, said, “We are blessed to welcome back Prof. Jim Lopez, whose expertise and generosity continue to inspire our students, faculty, and partners in the community. His lecture is a reminder of how our alumni embody excellence and service beyond the walls of LCC.”

The program opened with a prayer led by Katrina Viel Butana, followed by remarks from Dr. Romela R. Aujero, vice president for administration and academic affairs. Dr. Rodjhun B. Navarro, vice president for research, publication, innovation and linkages, introduced the guest speaker, while Sanicas delivered the closing remarks. The program concluded with a prayer by Nash Owen Cango.

The free seminar was sponsored by the LCC High School Class of 1970, with Ms. Maricar Loyola-Hertzog serving as prime mover of the initiative.
