Joesony Junas, a Bachelor of Science in Architecture student from La Consolacion College Bacolod, won 2nd Place in the Inter-Local Government Unit (LGU) Painting Competition held in celebration of the Negros Occidental Provincial Environment Month.
Representing Bago City, Junas created a powerful piece based on the theme “Rehabilitation and Restoration of Green Spaces.” Instead of simply showcasing nature’s beauty, his painting focused on the environmental damage that often goes unseen, emphasizing the deep wounds left by exploitation and neglect.

“Restoring and conserving the environment is not simple,” Junas said. “The wounds may eventually close, but the scars remain.”
He described his win as a meaningful bonus, stating that his true goal was to promote the advocacy behind the competition. Junas hopes to use his talent to influence awareness and inspire action, especially among his fellow Negrenses.
“Art can awaken empathy and a sense of urgency. When people feel emotionally connected, they’re more likely to care and protect what remains,” he added.
The Inter-LGU Painting Competition is part of the province’s efforts to raise public consciousness on the importance of protecting and rehabilitating green spaces across Negros Occidental.
