Joshua Romano Claims Top Honors at THOS 2025 and Youth Leadership Excellence Awards

Once in a while, a young leader emerges—not just to represent his generation, but to remind us all that purpose, humility, and conviction can still define success.

This year, that leader is Joshua Romano D. Gayares of La Consolacion College Bacolod.

At the recently concluded 54th The Outstanding Students (THOS) Awards, after a rigorous screening process which included the Finalists’ Forum held last May 17, 2025, at Negros Residences, Bacolod City, Joshua was named Top 1 among a pool of the city’s most exceptional student leaders. Organized annually by JCI Bacolod, the THOS program honors those whose academic performance, leadership experience, and service to community rise above the rest.

But for Joshua, it was never about rising above—it was always about rising with others.

In his heartfelt message after the win, Joshua thanked the school presidents who believed in him: Sr. Joan Brigida Corazon S. Infante, OSA and Sr. Flolyn S. Catungal, OSA, past and present leaders of LCC Bacolod, for their unwavering support and inspiration. He also expressed gratitude to the student leaders he collaborated with, the advocates of movements close to his heart like Slow Food Youth and 3Zero, and the many mentors who walked with him throughout his journey.

“I’ve never led alone,” Joshua said. “Everything I’ve achieved is because someone believed in me first.”

As if one honor weren’t enough, Joshua was also conferred the 40th Youth Leadership Excellence Award on June 7, 2025—a national recognition celebrating young Filipinos who demonstrate exemplary service and leadership across communities.

These milestones come as no surprise to those who know Joshua personally. He is known not only for his academic excellence but for the values he lives by—compassionate leadership, quiet courage, and relentless advocacy.

What makes Joshua truly exceptional is his refusal to chase titles for glory. He once shared in an interview, “Leadership is not always glamorous. Sometimes it’s messy, uncertain, and thankless—but it’s always worth it if it means creating space for others to grow.”

Joshua’s achievements are not his alone. They are, in many ways, a reflection of La Consolacion College Bacolod’s enduring legacy: forming servant leaders who lead with purpose, serve with heart, and uplift communities. His story continues the institution’s tradition of producing graduates who go on to make remarkable contributions in both public and private sectors.

As he continues his journey, one thing is certain—Joshua Gayares doesn’t just represent the best of LCC Bacolod. He represents the best of what our generation can become.

Congratulations, Joshua. The future is brighter because you’re helping lead it.
