LCC Bacolod Inks Partnership with Barangays 10 and 11 for Service-Learning

La Consolacion College Bacolod formalized its collaboration with its neighboring communities through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signing with Barangays 10 and 11 on May 16, 2025 at the President’s Office. The partnership solidifies years of outreach initiatives into a more structured, intentional, and sustainable Service-Learning Program, responding to real community needs while enriching student formation.

Although LCC Bacolod has long been present in these communities through catechism classes, livelihood initiatives, and various outreach activities, the agreement signals a deeper commitment to journey together in service and shared development.

Sr. Flolyn S. Catungal, OSA, School President, led the ceremonial signing with Punong Barangay Evelyn C. Taasan of Barangay 11 and Mr. Melvin Bravo of Barangay 10, represented by Mrs. Marvie, Livelihood Committee Chairperson.

“This partnership is an expression of our shared mission to serve the last, the least, and the lost,” Sr. Flolyn said. “Service-learning is not just about what we give—it’s about what we learn from each other. These communities are not mere recipients of service. They are our partners in building a more compassionate and just society.”

Dr. Rodjhun B. Navarro, Vice President for Research, Innovation, and Linkages, welcomed the barangay leaders and emphasized the alignment of the agreement with LCC Bacolod’s vision of meaningful engagement.

“What makes this partnership transformative is that it bridges the classroom and the community. Our students become not only informed citizens but also compassionate ones,” said Dr. Navarro.

Mrs. Bernadette Tupas, the school’s Outreach Focal Person, who moderated the ceremony, underscored the value of listening and co-creating solutions with community members.

“Every outreach activity must begin with respect—for their realities, their voices, and their aspirations. This agreement allows us to be more responsive and strategic,” she said.

Meanwhile, Ms. Maria Girlie Abad, Head of the Center for Spirituality and Mission, shared the spiritual core of the program’s catechism component.

“Our catechetical mission is to sow the seeds of hope and faith—not just through words, but through presence. In this way, we accompany our partner communities in both spiritual and human formation,” she added.

Through this formal partnership, LCC Bacolod affirms its commitment to service-learning that is grounded in faith, justice, and solidarity, with Barangays 10 and 11 now serving as primary communities for student immersion and outreach.
