Sept. 23, 2025 — Sr. Flolyn S. Catungal, OSA, president of La Consolacion College Bacolod, opened the school’s Literary and Musical Intramurals on Tuesday with a call for integrity in public life and confidence in the arts, telling students that the celebration is about their future and the values they gain through practice.
“Most of you know what’s going on in our country,” Catungal said, referencing recent nationwide rallies over alleged corruption in flood-control projects. “Why did we join? It’s because of your future, our dear students.”

Catungal said good governance creates more opportunities for young people to develop their talents, “especially in culture and the arts,” but added that success still hinges on “your industry, willingness to learn, and determination to excel no matter what.”
Framing the intramurals as a showcase of student voice, she invited participants and audiences alike to treat every performance—whether poetry, prose, song or dance—as an act of connection. “Each presentation is a manifestation of your desire to be seen and heard, and to share the goodness of your heart, to inspire and to connect,” she said.
Addressing competitors directly, Catungal praised the discipline behind the stage lights, noting that rehearsals cultivate “patience, craftsmanship, excellence, community, teamwork and collaboration.” She also thanked parents and mentors for their steady support.
Despite adverse weather brought by Super Typhoon Nando, Catungal said the community gathered “to celebrate your gifts,” urging that the day be “filled with discovery, applause, and moments that move us.”
She closed by formally opening the competition: “Welcome to the fest—let the contest begin.”
