LCC Bacolod renews community partnership with informal waste workers through MOU signing

La Consolacion College Bacolod renewed its commitment to community outreach and service-learning as it signed a memorandum of understanding with the Informal Waste Sector Association of Bacolod City on Jan. 21, formalizing the adoption of the association as a beneficiary of the college’s extension and service-learning programs.

The agreement was signed at La Consolacion College Bacolod, facilitated by the Mother Rita Barcelo Outreach Center through the efforts of Bernadette Tupas, coordinator.

Sr. Flolyn S. Catungal, OSA, president of LCC Bacolod, signed the agreement on behalf of the college, while IWSABC President Johna Estrebor signed for the association alongside its officers.

“This partnership reflects who we are as an institution,” Catungal said. “Education does not end in the classroom. When our students engage with communities, especially those often unseen, learning becomes meaningful, transformative and grounded in service.”

She added that renewing the partnership affirms LCC Bacolod’s mission to integrate instruction, research and community engagement while responding to real social and environmental needs.

Estrebor welcomed the continued collaboration, emphasizing its importance to the association’s members and their families.

“Daku gid ini nga bulig sa amon asosasyon,” Estrebor said in Hiligaynon. “Paagi sa sini nga kasugtanan, mas madamo kami kahigayunan sa pagtuon, pagpalig-on sang amon pangabuhian, kag pagserbisyo man sa komunidad.”

Under the agreement, the Informal Waste Sector Association of Bacolod City will serve as a partner-community for LCC Bacolod’s outreach initiatives and service-learning activities, providing students with opportunities for experiential learning while supporting capacity-building efforts for informal waste workers.

The Mother Rita Barcelo Outreach Center will oversee the implementation and coordination of joint activities to ensure alignment with the college’s extension goals and the needs of the partner community.
