๐ ๐ช๐ก๐ฎ 11, 2024, ๐ฝ๐๐๐ค๐ก๐ค๐ ๐พ๐๐ฉ๐ฎ โ Sister Flolyn S. Cantungal, OSA, the newly appointed President of La Consolacion College Bacolod, met with representatives from Deutsche Gesellschaft fรผr Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH and project team members involved in the research initiative “Assessment and Management of Plastic Waste Streams and Their Leakages in Bacolod City.”
The project, a collaborative effort between La Consolacion College Bacolod, GIZ, the University of Kassel, and the University of St. La Salle. Currently on its final stages, it aims to empower waste pickers in Barangay Felisa, preparing them for development projects that promote a circular economy and enhance the welfare and empowerment of women in the informal waste sector.
An advocate for women’s empowerment, Sister Flolyn expressed strong support for the initiative, promising to provide learning sessions focused on women’s perspectives for the project volunteers. “La Consolacion College Bacolod exists for the community,” Sister Flolyn affirmed.
During the meeting, Sister Flolyn engaged with the project team including Terence Dacles, 3RproMar Project Coordinator; Maricel Jarencio, 3RproMar/Senior Adviser; Elizabeth Cabuguas, Project Resource Person on Organizational Development; and Rodjhun Navarro, project focal person and VP for Research, Innovations, and Linkages at LCC Bacolod.
Additionally, Sister Flolyn interacted with LCC students who are developing an application to track the proper disposal of plastic waste in Bacolod City. She connected the students with techpreneur Gian Javelona, who will provide the necessary technical support for the app’s development. Among the students were GIZ intern Jal Devecais and Gabriel Malanday. The project is being funded by GIZ. This engagement highlights La Consolacion College Bacolod’s commitment to community development and innovative solutions for sustainable waste management.
