LCCB Breaks Ground for New Architecture, Fine Arts, and Interior Design Building

Nov. 24, 2025 — La Consolacion College Bacolod held a groundbreaking ceremony Monday for the new School of Architecture, Fine Arts, and Interior Design or ARFIEN building, a major milestone that aims to strengthen the institution’s long-standing commitment to creative education.

Rev. Msgr. Ronaldo Quijano, SThD, presided over the rite and led the symbolic turning of the first soil, invoking God’s blessing over the project. The design of the facility was created by Frasso Inc., represented during the ceremony by Architect Francis de los Reyes.

Sr. Flolyn S. Catungal, OSA, School President, called the event a testament to LCCB’s Augustinian educational mission and a reminder that all works begin with faith. Quoting the psalm, “Unless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it,” she asked the community to pray for the project’s safe, successful completion. “Whenever we serve the needs of our community, we are God’s co-workers,” she said.

Dr. Vincent Raymund Alovera, Dean of ARFIEN, delivered the welcome remarks, highlighting the college’s 63-year history of developing architects, artists, and designers who now contribute locally and abroad.

“This building symbolizes our desire to nurture creativity and give our students a space where their ideas can take shape, where they can explore, learn, and grow,” Alovera said. He added that the new facility will offer improved studios, workspaces, and collaborative areas designed to inspire confidence, craftsmanship, and creativity.

Also present were Board of Trustees Chairman Dr. Ramon Ponce de Leon, administrators, faculty members, staff and students who represented various pillars of the project: academic governance, community stewardship, faith-inspired design, resource management, architectural education, alumni and benefactor support, and the dedication of the construction workers whose labor will bring the structure to life. The Skyblake Construction Team was formally acknowledged as the builder responsible for transforming the site into a “lasting structure dedicated to learning and service.”

The rite emphasized that the new ARFIEN building is envisioned as a sanctuary where faith, design, and knowledge converge. Program notes described God as the “Master Architect” and the project as a shared endeavor rooted in wisdom, creativity, and service to the community.

“As we break ground today, let us look ahead with a renewed sense of purpose, encouraging thoughtful design and fostering creativity,” Sr. Flolyn said. “May this project be a space where ideas grow and students are inspired to pursue their passions.”

Construction is set to begin immediately. Once completed, the new building is expected to strengthen LCCB’s architecture, fine arts, and interior design programs and support the development of the next generation of Filipino designers and creatives.
