With quiet elegance and resonant storytelling, Mary Antonnette Sedava transformed a showroom presentation into a heartfelt sensory journey—earning her the Outstanding Walk-Through Presentation Award at the La Consolacion College Bacolod BS Interior Design showroom exhibit. Her concept, a “Butterfly Meadow,” was more than a visual display. It was a poetic environment imbued with light, warmth, and story.
“My strategy for the showroom walk-through was to use the poem’s imagery to create a sensory experience,” Sedava shared. Drawing from verses she penned herself, she invoked feelings of serenity and joy through images of sunlight, color, and fragrance—a design narrative that fluttered with grace, just like the butterflies that inspired it. “The overall aim was to create an emotional connection by leaving them with a feeling of peace and inspiration.”

Rather than leaning solely on visual impact, Sedava wove a delicate balance of storytelling and technical articulation. “Instead of simply stating facts and characteristics about Japandi design,” she explained, “I described why those choices were made, connecting them to the overall Butterfly Meadow theme.” Light wood cabinetry, for instance, wasn’t just a material—it was a metaphor for sunlight, practicality wrapped in poetry.
This integration of form, function, and feeling wasn’t just for show. It reflected the deep personal journey she undertook throughout the design process. “The challenges and hardships faced during the design process resonated most with viewers,” Sedava admitted. Many of those who experienced her walk-through felt that emotional chord—the reality of struggle, the triumph of creation, and the solace found in intentional spaces.
More than a showcase of style, Sedava’s presentation was a masterclass in communicating vision with clarity and soul. “This experience showed me how strong communication and presentation skills are for interior designers,” she said. “I believe successfully sharing a design story and technical aspects is key to connecting with clients and making the design a reality.”
Through her words, her work, and her warmth, Sedava showed that great design doesn’t just fill a space—it fills the heart.
