Shepherding Forward: Sr. Flolyn Inspires LCC Bacolod Community

La Consolacion College Bacolod opened Academic Year 2025–2026 not just with new students and new plans, but with renewed clarity of purpose. In her address during the Personnel Institutional Assembly, President Sr. Flolyn S. Catungal, OSA set the tone with humility and spiritual grounding—reminding the LCC community that the school’s journey is not about prestige or survival, but mission.

Yet, prestige has followed purpose.

This year, LCC Bacolod ranked Top 3 nationwide in the Licensure Examination for Interior Designers, reaffirming its place as one of the country’s rising academic institutions in the field of design and architecture. Sr. Flolyn pointed to this triumph not as a solo feat, but as the fruit of shared commitment—from faculty to students, and from mentors to administrators.

“We are seeing the results of our unity and faith in action,” she said.

A Shepherd at the Helm

Sr. Flolyn’s leadership reflects the quiet strength of a shepherd-leader—one who walks with the community, listens, and guides with compassion. Her message was anchored in both gratitude and responsibility: gratitude for the 3,885 students enrolled this year, and responsibility to shape not only their intellect but their character.

She acknowledged areas that need support, especially in the Senior High School and SARFAID departments, but emphasized that LCC Bacolod’s strength lies in its ability to rise together. “We hope that our Graduate School and ETEEAP will pull us up,” she said, affirming the interdependence across departments.

When Faith Meets Vision

Sr. Flolyn’s speech was a roadmap grounded in faith. She announced key goals:

– Apply for deregulated status

– Expand program accreditations

– Push for inclusion in international innovation rankings

These are practical ambitions, but each tied to values. “We make sure that, above all these, Augustinian-Marian quality education is achieved,” she said, underscoring that the institution’s forward movement is not driven by metrics alone—but by meaning.

The recent Interior Design board exam success served as proof. Excellence is not at odds with spirituality. At LCC Bacolod, they reinforce each other.

Progress Built Together

The President also reported on visible improvements: new classroom chairs, upgraded washrooms, expanded air-conditioning, digital boards, and a new LED wall. She cited the transfer of the Hospitality and Tourism programs to the HRMT Center at Quezon Avenue as a strategic move that led to increased enrollment.

None of these were individual accomplishments. Sr. Flolyn thanked specific departments, especially admissions and marketing, and recognized the efforts of Sr. Jonie Florentino for ensuring that even logistical transitions were rooted in collaboration.

“Let us take care of one another so we can take care of our students,” she reminded.

Leadership for a Mission

Sr. Flolyn also announced the creation of the Office of Institutional Sustainability and Development, a strategic unit tasked with ensuring the long-term viability of the institution through focused efforts in marketing, expansion of non-traditional academic programs, partnership development, and asset stewardship. At the helm of this office, in a consultant capacity, is no less than the Chair of the Board of Trustees, Dr. Ramon Ponce de Leon, whose leadership signals the importance and urgency of sustaining LCC Bacolod’s growth trajectory.

She drew inspiration from Pope Francis and the Synod, reflecting on how Catholic institutions today must lead not with control, but with communion. She invited all LCCians to walk in step with one another—faculty with students, staff with leaders, and each with the mission.

Restless for God, Ready for the Work

Sr. Flolyn ended her speech the way she began: with calm conviction and deep faith.

“We want success,” she said, “but more than that, we want truth, purpose, and God.”

Quoting St. Augustine, she grounded the year ahead in the restlessness that drives transformation:

“You have made us for Yourself, O Lord, and our hearts are restless until they rest in You.”

With new milestones, new challenges, and new opportunities, La Consolacion College Bacolod moves forward—not for prestige, but for purpose.

Because when a community rises together—with shared goals and a faithful heart—it does more than succeed.

It shines.
