STS Film Festival 2025 Summer Edition: A Celebration of Student Innovation and Creativity

Bacolod City, Philippines – The STS Film Festival 2025 Summer Edition captivated audiences on May 30, 2025, at the Luisa Medel Little Theater, showcasing a remarkable display of student-produced films. The festival celebrated the innovative and creative spirit of Science, Technology, and Society (STS) students under the guidance of Mr. Rewey F. Lavilles, LPT.

The program commenced with a registration period, followed by a solemn opening prayer and the Philippine National Anthem presented via an Audio Visual Presentation. Dr. Rosanne Rhezel P. Jalbuena, LPT, RPsy, Dean of the School of Sciences, Liberal Arts, and Teacher Education, delivered the opening remarks. Dr. Jalbuena lauded the STS students for producing films that truly embodied the values of innovation and creativity. She also extended her congratulations to Mr. Lavilles for his tireless dedication in seamlessly integrating his lessons into the engaging format of short films.

The esteemed panel of judges, comprised of Dr. Kevin Clyde Ong, Mr. Paul John Pilapil, and Ms. Cheska Marianne Gutierrez, were then introduced. Following their introduction, the guidelines and criteria for judging were thoroughly explained to all participating groups, ensuring a fair and transparent evaluation process.

The individual film showcase then began, presenting a diverse range of narratives and cinematic styles:

“Abante” by HMCA 1B/TM1B, directed by Kim Parojillo and Elyzziah Nobleza.

“Moritura” by BSBA 1/BSIT 1/BLIS 1, directed by Rameses Jay Wong and Erl Arbado.

“Kalibutan” by TM1A, directed by Marvi Joice Vicentino and Precious Prieto.

“Grains of Winds” by HMCA 1A, directed by Renz Tanaman, Ianna Billanes, and Angel Joy Toga.

“Project Haven” by HM1A, directed by Jill Margarette Lopez.

After a compelling display of each film, the much-anticipated awards were announced, recognizing excellence across various categories:

Best Picture: Moritura

2nd Best Picture: Grains of Winds

3rd Best Picture: Kalibutan

4th Best Picture: Abante

5th Best Picture: Project Haven

Best Lead Actor: Ethan Montebano

Best Lead Actress: Ma. Isobel Tanjuaquio

Best Supporting Actor: John Carlo Villa

Best Supporting Actress: Czarina Kylah Albay

Best Director: Rameses Jay Wong (Moritura)

Best Screenplay: Moritura

Best Cinematography: Moritura

Best Production Design: Grains of Winds

Best Editing: Grains of Winds

Best Costume Design: Moritura

Best Makeup: Moritura

Best Sound: Kalibutan

Best Visual Effects: Moritura

People’s Choice Award for Favorite Poster: Abante

Following the awards ceremony, Mr. Rewey F. Lavilles, the STS instructor, delivered his closing remarks. He applauded the collective efforts of each group, from the actors and directors to the stage directors and other film crew members, highlighting the collaborative spirit that brought these cinematic visions to life. Mr. Lavilles concluded his message by expressing his hope that everyone had fun during the filming process and gained valuable insights from their respective films.

The successful film festival concluded with a joyful photo opportunity and the singing of the Loyalty Song, cementing the sense of community and achievement. The program was skillfully moderated by Mae Ane E. Gequilan, while the meticulous tabulation of results was handled by Eric John Garinggo and Andrea Kate Arriza. The STS Film Festival 2025 Summer Edition not only showcased emerging talent but also underscored the impactful way education can be integrated with creative expression.
