Graduating students of La Consolacion College Bacolod were reminded that academic achievement finds its fullest meaning when placed at the service of God and society during the Baccalaureate Mass celebrated ahead of the institution’s 27th Graduate School and 10th Expanded Tertiary Education Equivalency and Accreditation Program (ETEEAP) Commencement Exercises.
Presiding over the Eucharistic celebration, Msgr. Ronald M. Quijano reflected on the Scriptures of the day, inviting graduates to see commencement not simply as the conclusion of their studies but as the beginning of a lifelong mission of Christian witness.
Drawing from the institution’s theme, “107 Years of Faithful Journey Towards Integral Transformation,” the homilist described graduation as a moment of transition that calls graduates to move forward with purpose, carrying the values, faith, and formation nurtured by La Consolacion College Bacolod.

Recalling the meaning of the term alma mater—the “nourishing mother”—Msgr. Quijano said the institution has, for more than a century, formed generations of students not only intellectually but also spiritually and morally. Such formation, he noted, prepares graduates to become leaders who contribute to the transformation of society in the light of the Gospel.
Reflecting on the prophet Amos, the celebrant underscored that God often chooses ordinary people to proclaim extraordinary truths. Like the shepherd called by the Lord to speak with courage, today’s graduates are likewise entrusted with the responsibility of bearing witness to truth, justice, and integrity in their respective professions and communities.
The homily also emphasized the value of research and higher learning as ministries of service. Academic work, including theses, dissertations, and professional studies, should not remain confined to libraries or classrooms, Msgr. Quijano said, but should address the concrete realities and needs of people, especially those on the margins of society.
Turning to the Gospel, he reflected on Christ’s teaching that “new wine must be poured into fresh wineskins,” encouraging graduates to embrace continual conversion and renewal. Authentic Christian formation, he said, is not limited to acquiring knowledge but requires openness to the transforming grace of God and fidelity to the Church’s mission.
The monsignor further reminded the graduates that their academic credentials carry corresponding responsibilities. As Catholic professionals, they are called to exercise ethical leadership, uphold honesty in research and professional practice, and become instruments of hope and reconciliation in an increasingly complex world.
Concluding the celebration, prayers were offered through the intercession of Our Lady of Consolation, asking that the graduates remain faithful to Christ and steadfast in serving the Church and society with competence, compassion, and integrity.
The Baccalaureate Mass formed part of the commencement celebrations of La Consolacion College Bacolod, as the institution commemorates 107 years of Catholic, Augustinian education dedicated to the integral formation of persons and communities.
