First- to third-year college students of La Consolacion College Bacolod gathered for General Education Day on July 22, participating in academic orientations, advocacy sessions and team-building activities designed to strengthen their understanding of the institution’s general education program.
The student assembly opened with an orientation on general education and academic integrations facilitated by Mr. Rejay Alvarado, Chair of the Humanities and Social Sciences and Gender and Development Focal Person. The session introduced students to the role of general education courses in developing broad knowledge, critical thinking, communication skills and values applicable across academic disciplines.

Dr. Janrae Sanicas said the activity helped students recognize that general education subjects are not separate from their professional courses but provide essential foundations for lifelong learning.
“General education equips students with the intellectual, ethical and practical competencies they need to understand complex issues, communicate effectively and make responsible decisions,” Sanicas said. “Through this assembly, we want them to see how these courses connect with their chosen fields and with the kind of graduates they are expected to become.”
The morning program also included an advocacy lecture on HIV awareness and health led by Dr. Rosanne Jalbuena and Arthur Boboli. The session sought to provide students with accurate health information and promote responsible decision-making and respect for others.
In the afternoon, students joined house assemblies organized under the Intellectual, Civic and Practical houses. Faculty leaders facilitated the breakout sessions at the college quadrangle, Little Theater and auditorium.
The house activities were followed by inter-house parlor games and team-building exercises facilitated by Jean Erezo, together with the student council, Student Affairs Center personnel, faculty members and house leaders.
The day concluded with the on-the-spot Mx Gen Ed pageant on the main stage, coordinated by Jett Anciano and the general education faculty.
The SSLATE Student Council assisted in the registration, attendance and preliminary activities.
