FACULTY UNDERGO PRACTICAL STATISTICS TRAINING TO STRENGTHEN RESEARCH WORK

Faculty members of La Consolacion College Bacolod began a three-day training on practical statistics June 22 to build confidence in handling research data and writing results.

The training, titled “From Fear to Fluency: Practical Statistics for Faculty Researchers,” is facilitated by Rejay Y. Alvarado, head of the Research and Creative Works Office and institutional statistician. It runs from June 22 to 24.

Faculty members from the School of Sciences, Liberal Arts and Teacher Education and the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management attended the sessions.

Day 1 introduced key concepts in statistics and research data, including descriptive and inferential statistics, variables, levels of measurement, research questions, statistical tools, data preparation, coding and cleaning.

Day 2 is expected to be more hands-on, with sessions on descriptive statistics, assumption testing and group comparisons, including t-tests, ANOVA and nonparametric procedures.

The final day will cover correlation analysis, reliability testing, APA-style reporting and a faculty research clinic where participants may consult on statistical treatments, datasets, research questions and interpretation of results.

The training supports LCCB’s effort to strengthen faculty research culture by helping teachers use statistics with greater clarity, accuracy and confidence.
