After a three-year hiatus, La Consolacion College Bacolod’s collegiate student publication, The Ripples, made a resounding comeback at the College Press Conference and Awards (COPRE) 2023. The event, held at the Grand Xing Imperial Hotel in Iloilo City on December 20, saw The Ripples bagging multiple awards in various on-the-spot writing competitions.
Angela Keziah Espinosa, the editor-in-chief of The Ripples, secured the coveted first place in Editorial Writing (English), surpassing competitors from different student publications across Western Visayas. In another notable achievement, Mae Ane Gequilan, Feature Editor, claimed the second position in Feature Writing (English), while Wayne Aldrich Arienda, Illustrator, took the fifth spot in Editorial Cartooning.
Under the guidance of Mrs. Zilla Rozzi Javier, The Ripples also participated in additional categories, including News Writing (Filipino), Sports Writing (Filipino), Copyreading (Filipino), and Photojournalism (English). Represented by Nao Mae Diaz (Sports Editor), Gere Gutierrez (Literary Editor), and Alyssa Aguirre (Photojournalist), the publication showcased a commendable collective effort.
The annual COPRE, organized by the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Region 6, aims to bring together student publications from across the region, identifying promising journalists in various categories. This year’s edition saw a record-breaking attendance, with over 1500 participants converging to celebrate campus journalism.
With the theme “Maximize Campus Journalism with Media and Information Literacy Competencies,” COPRE 2023 featured exceptional participation from various campus publications. The event highlighted competitive publication contests, on-the-spot writing competitions, and the Mr. and Ms. COPRE 2023.
Notably, this marks The Ripples’ first participation in COPRE in over three years, signifying a significant comeback after a dormancy induced by the pandemic. True to their motto, The Ripples made waves, leaving a lasting impression with their outstanding performance and resounding return to the forefront of campus journalism. #TheRipplesLCCB #BuildingDreamsTogetherwithLCCB #lccbPRIDE
