LCC BACOLOD INTERIOR DESIGN STUDENTS GAIN INDUSTRY INSIGHTS THROUGH FURNITURE SHOP FIELD EXPOSURE

Third-year Bachelor of Science in Interior Design students of La Consolacion College Bacolod gained valuable real-world learning experience during an educational visit to Sason Furniture as part of their Furniture Design 2 class, reinforcing the importance of field exposure in interior design education.

Led by Idr. Rachel Jutare, the visit allowed students to observe contemporary furniture craftsmanship, sustainable material applications and practical design processes beyond the classroom setting.

Students were introduced to fabrication methods, ergonomic design principles and emerging trends in eco-friendly furniture. The activity also gave them the opportunity to interact directly with Ar. Bernabe Sason, who shared professional insights and design experiences with the aspiring designers.

Jutare said field-based learning remains essential in preparing students for the demands of the profession, as it bridges theoretical concepts with actual industry practice.

Dr. Vincent Raymund Alovera emphasized the value of experiential learning in design education.

“Interior design is best learned not only through lectures and studio work, but also through meaningful exposure to real production environments where creativity, craftsmanship and innovation come together,” Alovera said. “Experiences like this help shape our students into competent and industry-ready professionals.”

The visit also sparked fresh ideas for student projects while deepening appreciation for locally made furniture and design entrepreneurship.

College officials said partnerships with industry practitioners strengthen academic instruction by giving students opportunities to engage with professionals and witness how design concepts are translated into functional and market-ready products.

The activity forms part of the college’s continuing efforts to provide future interior designers with immersive learning experiences that prepare them for excellence in the workplace.
