Bacolod City, Negros Occidental—La Consolacion College Bacolod actively participated in the Knowledge Sharing Conference held on November 6, 2024, as part of the “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle to Protect the Marine Environment and Coral Reefs” (3RproMar) project. The conference, organized by GIZ, brought together stakeholders to share and discuss initiatives aimed at reducing marine litter and protecting the region’s coastal ecosystems, specifically focusing on plastic waste leakage into the ocean.
LCCB showcased its study on ocean waste and junkshops, a significant project under the 3RproMar initiative. This research highlighted the college’s commitment to environmental stewardship and its efforts to engage the local community in waste management solutions. The session on “Pilot Initiatives and Youth Involvement” allowed LCCB and other organizations to present innovative projects contributing to the goal of “zero waste to Philippine waters by 2040.”
President of La Consolacion College Bacolod, Sr. Flolyn S. Catungal, OSA, expressed her pride in LCCB’s role in the conference. “Our participation underscores our commitment to sustainable practices and the welfare of our community. We are proud to be part of an initiative that tackles one of the most pressing environmental issues today.”
Dr. Johannes Paul, Project Manager of 3RproMar, also emphasized the importance of the involvement of partner educational institutions. “Educational institutions play a critical role in community engagement and awareness. Their work in marine waste management is a testament to the impact of collaborative efforts in addressing plastic pollution.”
This conference served as a platform for LCCB to collaborate with various stakeholders, reinforcing its commitment to environmental conservation and community-centered research in the Western Visayas.
