South Korean Artists Lead Calligraphy and Watercolor Workshop at LCC Bacolod

Three international visual artists hailing from South Korea brought their expertise to La Consolacion College Bacolod today, conducting an engaging workshop in calligraphy and watercolor painting. Kim Mun Jeong, Park Sang Jeong, and Park Soyun led the session, immersing Arts and Design and Fine Arts students in the intricacies of these traditional art forms.

The event, held on April 22, 2024, was part of the ongoing cultural exchange program between Korean artists and LCC Bacolod students, organized by the Korea-Philippines Festival, Cultural, and Educational Association (KPFCEA). Professor Junghwan Kim, Chairman of KPFCEA, highlighted the importance of such engagements in fostering intercultural understanding.

Lasting two hours, the workshop saw students guided by the visiting artists in crafting watercolor painted fan art and mastering the strokes of calligraphy on special paper. At the conclusion of the session, the artists handpicked the best works, and students were duly recognized for their efforts.

Welcoming the KPFCEA and the visiting artists, Sister Joan Brigida Corazon S. Infante, OSA, President of LCC Bacolod, expressed her gratitude for the enriching experience provided to the students. She emphasized the value of hands-on learning in cultivating an appreciation for Korean Traditional Art among the participants.

Among the distinguished attendees were KPFCEA members Rudy Reveche, Sandra Sycip, and Rodjhun Navarro, VP for Research, Innovations, and Linkages. The artworks of the visiting artists are now on display at The Negros Showroom, coinciding with the 28th Panaad sa Negros Festival, providing a platform for the wider community to appreciate Korean art.

Senior High School administrators and faculty members, including Rejay Alvarado, Academic Coordinator, Mary Nelyn Guilaran, Arts and Design Chairperson, Janrae Sanicas, Com Arts Chairperson, Wilma Grace Amar, Coordinator for Student Formation, and Dexter Hormigoso, Faculty Member, also attended the event.
