MANILA, Philippines — School administrators, outreach coordinators and representatives from socio-pastoral mission centers of the Augustinian Sisters of Our Lady of Consolation gathered for the Socio-Pastoral Ministry National Assembly, where participants strengthened their commitment to service-learning, community outreach and sustainable mission programs.
The three-day gathering, held April 25-27 at the Barceló International Convention Center of La Consolacion College Manila, carried the theme, “SPM: Journeying with Fellow Pilgrims in LOVE toward Integral Transformation.”
A major highlight of the final day was the workshop session led by Dr. Rodjhun B. Navarro, vice president for research, innovation and linkages of La Consolacion College Bacolod, who discussed the distinctions and strategic value of outreach, extension service and service-learning in Catholic institutions.
Navarro emphasized that institutions must move beyond one-time charitable activities toward programs that empower communities and form students through meaningful engagement.
“Outreach touches lives today. Extension transforms communities tomorrow. Service-learning forms hearts and minds for life,” Navarro said.
He also underscored that mission-oriented institutions should ensure that service remains rooted in identity rather than reduced to compliance requirements or documentation.
Participants were divided into workshop groups to develop practical plans for school-based ministries and non-school mission areas, focusing on sustainability, partnerships and long-term impact.
Sr. Joan Brigida Corazon S. Infante, OSA, ASOLC councilor on apostolate and ASAS superintendent, said the assembly was designed to help ministries align their efforts with the congregation’s charism while responding effectively to present social realities.
“We are grateful for this opportunity to gather our institutions and mission areas in one spirit of communion. Our hope is that every participant returns inspired and equipped to build programs that truly serve, include and transform lives,” Infante said.
The workshop also encouraged participants to integrate service-learning into syllabi and lesson plans, allowing students to connect classroom learning with real community needs through reflection and action.
Organizers said the assembly reaffirmed the role of Augustinian institutions as communities of faith, compassion and social responsibility committed to walking with the poor and marginalized.
