The Ripples brought pride to La Consolacion College Bacolod after earning major recognitions in both individual and publication categories during the 14th The Write Start Workshop and the inaugural Parangal Tolentino Press Awards held April 25–26 at University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos.
The two-day gathering drew around 29 student publications from schools across the Negros Island Region, Western Visayas and Mindanao for training sessions, workshops, on-the-spot writing competitions and recognition rites celebrating excellence in campus journalism.
Among the publication awards, The Orphic—The Ripples’ COPRE Award-winning magazine—captured 3rd Place in Best Magazine Cover, marking its second consecutive recognition in the category.
The publication’s literary folio, K.K. Trip (Kanya-Kanyang Trip), secured 1st Place in Best Literary Folio. Although the folio has yet to be formally released for the second semester, it was submitted as an official entry and emerged as this year’s top winner.
In the individual categories, Oliver Escanier, cartoonist and online content editor, and Wayne Aldrich Arienda, art director, were both recognized as Most Promising in Cartooning.
Zara Sophia Diaz was named Most Promising Photojournalist.
The Ripples also acknowledged Frances Clare Vallejera and Allen Tordesillas for representing the publication in the event.
Sr. Flolyn S. Catungal, OSA congratulated the student publication for its latest achievements.
“We are proud of The Ripples for continuing to raise the banner of LCC Bacolod through responsible, creative and excellent journalism. These awards affirm the talent, discipline and teamwork of our student writers and artists. May this success inspire more young communicators to use their gifts in service of truth and community,” she said.
The latest recognitions further strengthen The Ripples’ growing reputation as one of the emerging student publications in the region.
