CHED NIR MONITORING STRENGTHENS LCC BACOLOD’S LIFELONG LEARNING PATHWAY FOR ADULT LEARNERS

La Consolacion College Bacolod strengthened its commitment to lifelong learning as the Commission on Higher Education Negros Island Region monitored the institution’s implementation of the Expanded Tertiary Education Equivalency and Accreditation Program on Thursday, July 2, 2026.

The CHED NIR monitoring team reviewed the college’s ETEEAP processes, documentation and support mechanisms to ensure that the program continues to meet quality assurance standards for recognizing prior learning, professional experience and demonstrated competencies.

The monitoring team was composed of Dr. Jose Leonardo Degillo, Dr. Louie Callora, Dr. James Basas, Dr. Benrie James Nufable and Dr. Noraisa Wee.

LCC Bacolod President Sr. Flolyn S. Catungal, OSA, led the college officials who participated in the monitoring activity. They included ETEEAP Coordinator Mr. Renell Bruma, Registrar Ms. Ellen Sesante, School of Hospitality and Tourism Management Dean Dr. Christian Angelo Ituriaga, School of Liberal Arts, Education and Teacher Education Dean Dr. Janrae Sanicas, and Integrated Basic Education Principal Sr. Irene M. Bancolo, OSA.

Faculty member Ms. Rhoda Maghinay and AB English Language Studies student Mr. James Romulo Montaño also joined the activity, providing perspectives on the academic and learner support components of the program.

Catungal said the monitoring visit underscored the college’s mission to make quality higher education accessible to learners whose professional and life experiences have prepared them for degree completion.

“ETEEAP reminds us that learning does not happen only inside the classroom,” Catungal said. “Many adult learners have gained valuable competencies through work, service and lived experience. Our responsibility as an institution is to help recognize these competencies through a process that is credible, compassionate and faithful to academic standards.”

The ETEEAP is a higher education pathway that allows qualified individuals with substantial work experience and prior learning to earn an undergraduate degree through assessment, equivalency and accreditation.

LCC Bacolod said the CHED NIR monitoring visit provided an opportunity to review institutional systems, strengthen compliance with program requirements and enhance support for adult learners and working professionals enrolled under ETEEAP.

The college said it remains committed to advancing flexible learning pathways that uphold academic quality while expanding access to higher education.
