Emphasizing the growing need for inclusive and respectful academic environments, the School of Sciences, Liberal Arts, and Teacher Education (SSLATE) of La Consolacion College Bacolod held a Gender Sensitivity and Safe Space Forum on March 19, 2026, at the LCCB Auditorium.
The forum brought together students and faculty to address pressing concerns on gender awareness, equity, and the creation of safe spaces within educational institutions.
LCCB President Sr. Flolyn S. Catungal, OSA, highlighted the continuing relevance of gender education in shaping values and social responsibility among learners.
“Gender sensitivity is not just a concept we discuss—it is something we live out in how we treat one another with dignity and respect,” Catungal said. “Creating safe spaces begins with recognizing that every person, regardless of gender, deserves to be heard, valued, and respected.”
Rejay Y. Alvarado, SSLATE Humanities and Social Sciences chairperson and Gender and Development (GAD) focal person, stressed the importance of sustained conversations and institutional commitment.
“This forum responds to real and present challenges faced by our students,” Alvarado said. “By equipping them with the right perspectives on gender and inclusion, we empower them to become advocates of safe and respectful communities.”
The activity forms part of SSLATE’s ongoing initiatives to strengthen gender and development education and reinforce a culture of inclusivity within the LCCB community.
