LCCian Student Leaders Attend Provincial Youth Environment Summit 2023

In a significant stride towards environmental consciousness, student leaders from La Consolacion College Bacolod actively participated in the Provincial Youth Environment Summit 2023. The event served as a highlight of the 19th Provincial Wildlife Month Celebration in the Province of Negros Occidental, held on November 20, 2023, at the Provincial Capitol Social Hall.

Organized by the Provincial Environment Management Office in collaboration with the Negrosanon Initiative for Climate and the Environment, the summit drew 300 participants from 21 Local Government Units and 7 Academic Institutions in Negros Occidental. Under the banner of the LCCB Institutional Environmental Advocacy Program, students were fervently engaged in various activities aimed at fostering environmental stewardship.

The summit commenced with a virtual keynote speech by Ms. Josefa Tauli, Youth Adviser to the UN Secretary-General on Climate Change. Her address set the tone for the discussions that followed, emphasizing the urgent need for collective action in the face of climate challenges. The event’s thematic focus on “Storytelling for Biodiversity Conservation” underscored the power of narratives in inspiring positive environmental change.

A highlight of the summit was a guided tour at the Negros Forests & Ecological Foundation Inc. Park, providing participants with a hands-on experience in understanding the local biodiversity and ecological conservation efforts. The immersive excursion aimed to deepen the students’ connection to nature, fostering a sense of responsibility for the preservation of the region’s unique ecosystems.

Following the tour, a dedicated planning session and brainstorming forum unfolded, wherein student leaders collaborated on generating innovative ideas for future environmental initiatives. This session allowed the exchange of perspectives and the formulation of action plans that would resonate within the local community and beyond.

The active participation of LCCB students in the Provincial Youth Environment Summit 2023 reflects the institution’s commitment to nurturing environmentally conscious leaders. Through the Institutional Environmental Advocacy Program, LCCB continues to empower its students to take an active role in addressing pressing environmental issues.

As the summit concluded, the LCCB delegates left equipped with new insights, inspiration, and a strengthened resolve to champion environmental causes. The impact of their participation in such initiatives extends beyond the confines of the academic setting, influencing positive change in the wider community. La Consolacion College Bacolod stands as a beacon of environmental responsibility, fostering a generation of leaders dedicated to safeguarding the planet for future generations. #lccbIEAP #GreenerLCCB
